Breaking Barriers San Diego; (en Español)

BBSD serves a wide range of participants, from those with limited work experience who may need the entire continuum of support; to those with extensive prior work histories who require minimal support to return to the workforce. BBSD collaborates with community service providers to ensure that your support needs are in place to enhance your employment success.

Meet local community services that visit the center every Wednesday to help address any other needs you may have. When they are present at the Center, we encourage you to speak with one of the representatives to learn more about the services they provide.

Computer Lab/Microsoft Office/Typing Class (South Metro location only)

Hours Monday-Thursday 9:00am-12:30pm, 12:45pm-4:30pm


Microsoft office/typing classes are free in the Gompers room. The classes are conducted by the Educational Cultural Complex (ECC). In order to take the class or a typing test you will need to obtain a student card from the ECC. You do not need to be a member of the Center in order to take the classes.


Criminal Record Assistance (South Metro location only)


  1. Fresh Start Re-entry Program: Information for criminal record holders on employment, the hiring process and other resources regarding re-entry. Workshops are on every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 2pm.
  2. Clean Slate Program: Volunteer attorneys and law students offer those with criminal records free legal consultation. Every 1st Saturday of the month from 10am-2pm unless noted otherwise (holidays, etc).

Individual Training Account (ITA) - eligibility requirement

ITA are designed to provide education and skills to prepare job seekers for employment. Members select the appropriate training available on the state-managed Eligible Training Provider List with guidance and assistance from AJCC staff.

To see if you qualify for the ITA program, members must attend an Orientation and proceed through the WIOA eligibility process. Program admittance is not a guarantee.


On-the-Job Training Program (OJT) - eligibility requirement

The OJT Program is designed to help businesses hire and train persons who do not have sufficient experience and knowledge in the jobs for which they are being hired. 

To see if you qualify for the OJT program, members must attend an Orientation and proceed through the WIOA eligibility process. Program admittance is not a guarantee. 

Recruitment Events/Calendar


Come explore job opportunities with local San Diego employers and businesses at the Center. Pick up one of our Recruitment Calendars to see which companies are hiring for the month. Dates and locations are subject to change.


Resume Clinic Review

Bring a printed copy of your resume to meet one-on-one with a staff member for a short 15 minute review on how to improve your resume. Please see our Workshop Calendar for dates, time and locations.


Resource Room

To put the final touches on your resume, fax employers an application or send a cover letter through your email, the Resource Room is available to you. The Resource Room is a space where there are computers with internet access, fax machines, copiers and phones available to assist you in your job search.


Toastmasters (South Metro location only)

Every Wednesday from 5:30pm-6:30pm

Join Toastmasters club to learn how to improve your public speaking and leadership skills. Attendees are aimed to become “masters” of these skills.

Veterans Boot Camp (South Metro location only)

Learn more about the program at the Veteran’s Orientation every Monday at 10:30-11:30am.

Boot Camp is a weeklong program to prepare Veterans to enter the workforce. Every day different sessions are offered to focus on specific job readiness skills. On the last day of the Veterans Boot Camp there will be a Veterans Employment Panel to meet Veteran friendly employers.
